PEEMADI Pledges Support

Okene, Kogi State – In a significant move to bolster the state’s energy sector, the Power Equipment and Electrical Machinery Development Institute (PEEMADI) has formally pledged comprehensive technical and human capacity support to the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC).

​This commitment was announced by the Acting Managing Director/CEO of PEEMADI, Engr. (Dr.) Abdulsalam El-Suleiman, during a strategic visit by the KERC management team to the institute’s headquarters in Okene.

A Strategic Partnership for Energy Innovation

​During the engagement, Engr. (Dr.) El-Suleiman emphasized that the transformation of the power sector requires collaborative expertise. "No institution can achieve transformational impact in isolation," he stated, affirming PEEMADI’s readiness to provide engineering expertise, research support, and advanced product development capabilities. ​

He further noted that as the energy sector shifts toward smart grids, renewable energy integration, and digitalized networks, such strategic partnerships are vital for improving service delivery and achieving Kogi State’s long-term power sector objectives. PEEMADI’s core competencies, including advanced manufacturing, equipment design, and electrical machinery development, are expected to play a pivotal role in these efforts.

Driving Local, Technology-Driven Solutions ​

PEEMADI highlighted that Nigeria’s power sector urgently requires innovative, locally sustainable solutions to address persistent challenges, including:

• Infrastructure Deficits: Modernizing equipment and grid components.
• Technical Efficiency: Reducing technical losses and optimizing distribution.
• Metering and Revenue Protection: Implementing accurate, tamper-proof systems.
• Capacity Building: Developing the local workforce to maintain and manage modern electrical infrastructure.

Aligning Vision with Operational Excellence

Speaking on behalf of the KERC Chairman/CEO, Engr. Ibrahim Sunday Abdwaaris, the General Manager for Market Competition and Rates, Alhaji Suleiman Isa, explained that the visit was designed to identify immediate avenues for collaboration.

​"Our goal is to foster partnerships that streamline transformer maintenance, enhance electrical equipment repairs, and ensure that all equipment deployed across the state meets rigorous technical specifications," said Alhaji Isa.

​The KERC delegation conducted an on-site assessment of PEEMADI’s facilities and product range to evaluate their alignment with the commission's technical standards. Alhaji Isa reiterated that strengthening local technical capacity is central to KERC’s mandate of delivering reliable and affordable electricity to the people of Kogi State.

​The KERC delegation also included Engr. Usman Umar, General Manager, Engineering, Performance and Monitoring, and Mr. Yakub Omanayi, General Manager, Strategy.

​This collaboration marks a proactive step in KERC’s mission to professionalize the state's power infrastructure through home-grown engineering excellence.
