KERC, Energy Commission of Nigeria Sign MoU to Boost Power Sector Investment in Kogi.
The Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission, KERC, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Energy Commission of Nigeria, ECN, to strengthen institutional collaboration and accelerate the development of the electricity sector in Kogi State.
The MoU, executed at a ceremony in Abuja, 4 June, 2026, covers key areas of cooperation including technical modelling and digital system planning, energy resource mapping and data integration, capacity building and regulatory fellowship programmes, network baseline assessment, and energy efficiency and quality standards.
The agreement is expected to enhance KERC’s regulatory capacity, improve grid planning, and provide the data and technical tools needed to expand access to reliable and affordable electricity for households, businesses, and industries across the state.
Speaking during the signing, KERC representatives noted that the partnership aligns with the Commission’s mandate to create an enabling environment for investment, enforce compliance, and ensure consumer protection under the Kogi Electricity Law 2024.
KERC was represented at the ceremony by the Commission Secretary Alhaji Kasim Mabo, the General Manager for Finance and Management Services Mr. Emmanuel Olorunmonu, and the General Manager for Strategy, Mr Yakubu Omanayi.
The ECN delegation commended Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission for taking proactive steps to deepen subnational electricity regulation.
The Commission Secretary, Alhaji Kasim Mabo emphasized that the MoU would serve as a framework for knowledge transfer and technical support, particularly in areas of energy data management and regulatory compliance.
The GM, Strategy, added that the collaboration would strengthen KERC’s ability to conduct stress tests and baseline assessments critical for market stability.
The General Manager, Finance and Management Services, Mr. Emmanuel Olorunmonu highlighted that improved data and modelling would help attract private sector investment by reducing risks and providing clearer investment signals for developers and financiers.
The Management and Staff of KERC extended special commendation to the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of ECN Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to institutional excellence.
His drive and strategic direction, they noted, will further enhance positioning KERC as a leading force in subnational electricity regulation and in securing strategic partnerships that deliver sustainable value for Kogi State.
Both KERC and ECN reaffirmed their commitment to the effective implementation of all agreed initiatives under the MoU and expressed optimism that the partnership will yield measurable improvements in service delivery and sector performance.
