The event brought together various stakeholders to work toward a stronger, fairer, and more sustainable electricity economy. Key Highlights The Chairman of KERC, Engineer Ibrahim S. Abdulwaaris, stressed that the tariff development process would be guided by three core principles: fairness, efficiency, and transparency. He assured consumers that the commission would only approve tariffs that are fair and reflect the living ecosystem's realities. Abdulwaaris urged consumers to pay their bills promptly to ensure the system's success. * The event was seen as a key component of the state's development agenda, aligning with the priorities of Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo. * A representative from the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) noted that tariff setting is a critical issue across the country. For consumers, transparency and affordability are key, while investors seek tariffs that can recover costs. The government aims to balance economic growth with social equity. NERC's representative explained that the tariff-setting process follows the Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO), a 15-year plan with regular reviews. * The Acting Managing Director of Kogi Electricity Distribution Limited, Mr. Olaseni Agunpopo, emphasized customer satisfaction and the importance of a transparent tariff methodology. He noted that a well-structured tariff methodology balances cost reflectivity with affordability, reducing revenue shortfalls and enabling infrastructure upgrades. * The event also highlighted KERC's efforts, including establishing special courts and mobile courts, to ensure consumers pay for electricity usage, which helps the sector grow and improve.
