The Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), in collaboration with Kogi Electricity Distribution Limited (KEDL), held a two-day workshop at its Lokoja headquarters. Themed "Effective Prosecution of Electricity Theft; Evidence Collection, Documentation and Legal Procedures", the event targeted Magistrates and Special Taskforce members. The workshop was held on the 13th - 14th of August 2025. The two-day workshop focusses on: - Strengthen legal and technical capacity to combat electricity theft, vandalism, and related offenses. - Enhance evidence collection, documentation, and legal procedures. - Promote investment confidence and protect power infrastructure. Engr. Ibrahim S. Abdwaaris, KERC Chairman/CEO, emphasized collaboration and legal enforcement to safeguard investor interests. Presentations covered: - Legal frameworks (Prof. Ibrahim Abdulkarim) - Sector challenges and opportunities (Engr. Michael Meliga) - Market competition and energy loss prevention (Dr. Abdulsalam Yusuf) - Contributions from judiciary and legal experts, including Mrs. Ajagu Oyiza Josephine Abedoh and Barrister M.A. Okpanachi. - Certificates of participation were awarded to attendees. Mr. Olaseni Agunpopo, Acting MD of KEDL, praised KERC’s efforts to improve the electricity market and attract investors. Participants were urged to engage actively and commit to building a robust electricity sector in Kogi State.
